From its very first announcement, Raid seemed like a Promising movie to me. Ajay Devgn was chosen wisely as an IT officer in the 80s. The story came from the Able hands of Ritesh Shah, who gave us movies like Kahaani, Airlift, and Pink. The director at the helm was Raj Kumar Gupta who delivered movies like Aamir and No One Killed Jessica. And not to mention, Saurabh Shukla (more on him later).

The movie set off without losing any time, with good pace, and engages you. You are shown what corrupt India of the 80s looked like. You have introduced our protagonist, Abhay Patnaik (Ajay Devgn), a strong, honest and no-nonsense character, perfect for Ajay.
His wife Malini is played by Ileana D’Cruz, who is of not much use to the story overall. The background music is well adjusted to the scenes and the soundtrack is small yet good.
From how his raids go on smoothly until he meets the Antagonist Tauji, played by my beloved, Saurabh Shukla. From there, the tone shifts. The hunter becomes the hunted.
But this much was already given away by the trailer. But where the movie excels is how it still kept some surprises up its sleeve and made for a gripping ride. The romantic scenes between husband and wife seems a bit out of place, considering it’s not a romantic movie, otherwise it makes a good run.
And what can I say about Saurabh Shukla?
He’s been one of my favorites since I was a child. And he shows that he is a veteran actor in every scene. He manages to outshine even the lead Ajay Devgn, who himself is very compelling.
But still, Saurabh Shukla’s experience is reflected in his work as he totally justifies this role. A big credit for this also goes to the well placed and well-timed characters around him, with whom, he delivers some great scenes.
Overall, Raid is a movie worth your Time and Money.

It’s a great movie with the compelling cast, great story and a direction that does justice to the script. And not to mention, Saurabh Shukla is the Show Stealer in this one. Sorry Ajay, but even you gotta admit who’s the boss here.
